Get medical care quickly if you notice

  • A sore, blister or cut on your foot that isn't healing, or redness, warmth or swelling in the foot
  • Sudden weakness, numbness or trouble walking
  • Symptoms in one leg only, or spreading quickly over days or weeks

Supplements and your medicines

Supplements can interact with medicines. A few examples from the research on this site: alpha lipoic acid can lower blood sugar, which matters if you take diabetes medicine. Turmeric can interact with blood thinners. Acetyl-L-carnitine made neuropathy worse in one trial of women receiving chemotherapy. Too much vitamin B6 can cause neuropathy.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting a supplement if you take prescription medicine, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are in cancer treatment. Never stop or change a prescribed medicine on your own.
